5.1 Use three samples total, one for the preload and cycle tests, one for the static and dynamic tests, and one for the inductive kickback test. Every combination of handing, fail safe, fail secure, fail maintained, and each voltage shall be tested separately.
5.2 Pre-Loaded Release Test (optional). This test is to be conducted before the Cycle Test and repeated after completion of the Cycle Test as stipulated below. Apply the selected force (from 5.2.3),perpendicular to the door in the direction of the door swing at a point 1 in. (25.4 mm) +/- 1/16 in. (1.6 mm) from the lock edge of the door and on the vertical centerline of the strike. With the applied load against the electric strike keeper, the strike shall release the latch in accordance with the conditions below. Breakage of the strike, failure to release or failure to relock after release constitutes failure of this test.
5.2.2.1 Before Cycle Energize the electric strike at its nominal rated voltage for 12 hours and immediately load the door to the selected force and release voltage to the electric strike. The electric strike shall release the latch within 1 second. The release test shall be repeated 4 additional times by energizing the strike for 5 seconds before unlocking the strike.
5.1.2.2 After Cycle Energize the electric strike at 85% of its rated voltage for 12 hours and immediately load the door to 85% of the selected force and release voltage to the electric strike. The electric strike shall release the latch within 1 second. The release test shall be repeated 4 additional times by energizing the strike for 5 seconds before unlocking the strike.
5.3 Cycle Test Test to the procedures described in UL 1034, sections 38.1 for the number of cycles specified. The test door shall be operated at a rate not to exceed 30 cycles per minute. The device shall be cycled with compatible hardware. Both right handed and left handed models shall be tested.Nonhanded and reversible devices shall be tested in both handed installations. Integral monitor switches, on models so equipped, shall be undergo the same cycles under typical current and voltage load. The device, including the monitor switch, shall function as intended at the end of the test.
5.6 Inductive Kickback Test Applicable to solenoid operators only. Connect the device through a switch to a power supply of the rated voltage. If designated to operate at more than one voltage, configure the device for the highest operating voltage. Use a storage oscilloscope with a minimum single-shot bandwidth of 200 megahertz with a ten megohm probe set to trigger on the falling edge of the supply voltage. Open the switch and record the captured trace.BHMA A156-31 pdf download.
