1.6 A direct vent refrigerator anticipated by this standard is a design option of the manufacturer and is an essentially balanced flue appliance, with the air intake and vent outlet in proximity. Other direct vent designs shall be subjected to such additional tests as believed necessary at the discretion of the testing agency.
1.7 Unless otherwise indicated on its rating plate, a refrigerator is for installation indoors in accordance with its marking and the manufacturer's installation instructions. When specified additional or alternate provisions are met, a refrigerator may be installed in a manufactured home (mobile home) or recreational vehicle.
1.8 This Standard contains SI (Metric) units corresponding to the yard/ pound quantities, the purpose being to allow the standard to be used in SI (Metric) units. (IEEE/ASTM SI 10, American National Standard for Metric Practice, or ISO 80000-1:2009, Quantities and units - Part 1: General, is used as a guide in making metric conversion from yard/ pound quantities.) If a value for a measurement and a corresponding value in other units are stated, the first stated value is to be regarded as the requirement. The given corresponding value may be approximate. If a value for a measurement and a corresponding value in other units are both specified as a quoted marking requirement, the first stated unit, or both, are to be provided.
4.1.12 The total area of contact between the refrigerator base or legs and the floor shall be such that the pressure on the floor shall not exceed 100 psi (690 kPa). (Static load, refrigerator empty.) No member that contacts the floor shall be smaller than 0.75 in2 (484 mm2). The surface of the contacting member may be slightly convex. The maximum distance between a chord drawn between the outermost points of the rounded section and the curvature, measured normal to the chord, shall not exceed 132 in (0.79 mm) per inch (25.4 mm) length of the chord.
4.1.14 On a refrigerator for manufactured home (mobile home) or recreational vehicle installation the combustion system shall be separated from the living space of the vehicle. If the appliance does not accomplish this separation by its design, the sides and top of the appliance in contact with the vehicle structure shall be provided with gaskets. Front cover plates, if used, shall also be gasketed. The bottom of the appliance, where it contacts the vehicle structure, shall be provided with a gasket, or the installation instructions shall specify a method of sealing at the time of installation.
