7.3.1.1 A straight specimen of Type FCC cable, when exposed in a circulating air oven to a temperature of 100±1°C for a period of 7 d, shall, after removal from the oven and being cooled to 25±5 °C, show no conductor breaks or insulation splits when subjected to two folding cycles as specified in Clause 7.3.1.2.After the folding cycles, the specimen shall be capable of withstanding for a period of 1 min, without breakdown, the application of an ac voltage of 1500 V applied between the metal conductors and tap water in which the specimen has been immersed, except for the ends, for 1 h.
7.3.1.2 A 400 mm length of cable shall be hand folded at a right angle (45° fold across the cable) and placed between the plates of a hydraulic press (see Figure 1). A 25 mm wide steel separator or shim of a thickness 0.25±0.05 mm greater than three times the nominal thickness of the cable shall be placed in the press parallel to but not touching the fold and pressed with a load of 22.2 kN. After 15 min, the cable shall be removed and straightened. This shall constitute one cycle of folding. The test shall be conducted at an ambient temperature of 25±5 °C. After two folding cycles there shall be no evidence of insulation separation or cracking when viewed under 3X magnification, and there shall be no conductor breaks or insulation splits. The specimen shall then be subjected to the dielectric strength test of Clause 7.3.7, except that the immersion period shall be 1 h with all of the conductors connected together and the fold area immersed in tap water.
7.3.3.1 The insulation shall show no cracks when a 500 mm specimen of the Type FCC cable has been exposed to a temperature of -25±1°C for at least 1 h and, while still at this temperature, bent 180° over the edge of a piece of 1.6 mm thick sheet steel. The edge of the sheet shall be finished to be semicircular with a radius of 0.8 mm. The specimen shall be examined for cracks and shall withstand, for a period of 1 min without breakdown, the application of an ac voltage of 1500 V applied between the conductors and water and between all conductors for a period of 1 min after being immersed, except for the ends, in tap water for 1 h.
7.3.3.2 Compliance with the cold bend test in Clause 7.3.3.1 shall be determined with the apparatus in accordance with Clause 7.5 of CSA C22.2 No.2556, Method for flexibility, at any specified temperature. The dielectric strength test in Clause 7.3.3.1 shall be carried out using the apparatus in accordance with Clause 6.2.3.1 of CSA C22.2 No.2556, Method No.1 for the dielectric strength test, after the specimen has been immersed in tap water for 1 h.CSA C22.2-NO.222 pdf download.
