CSA C49.8-09:2018 pdf download.Bare overhead aluminum conductors for distribution applications
1.1 CSA C49.8-09 specifies requirements for concentric-lay aluminum stranded conductors, with or without a central core of reinforcing steel strand. These conductors are intended for overhead installation on single-phase or three-phase electrical distribution systems.
1.2 In CSA Standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and "can" is used to express posibility or capability. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
4.2 Recoil and torque type test
The following test shall be performed for each strander set-up on A2 conductor 7-wire designs specified in Table 1:
(a) At least 15 m of completed stranded conductor shall be pulled off the strander, at the capstan,without allowing any rotation of the free conductor end. When the conductor is cut, the strands shall not unravel, and the conductor end shall not rotate more than two turns when released.
(b) The same conductor shall be laid out on a straight line. When the two ends are released, at least 60% of the length in the centre of the conductor shall be straight and shall not deviate from the line by more than 30 cm in either direction. The conductor shall lie flat with no vertical displacement.
5.1 Packaging
Completed conductors as specified in Table 1 shall be packaged on NEMA WC 26/EEMAC 201 Class III returnable wood reels or NEMA WC 26/EEMAC 201 Class I returnable steel fluted reels. Recommended metric shipping lengths are listed in Table A.1.
The actual length on any reel shall fall within a tolerance of 5% of the shipping length specified for lengths of 1000 m or less, and within a tolerance of 3% for lengths greater than 1000 m.
A length of conductor shorter than that recommended in Table A.1 may be supplied on a reel.
5.2 Package marking
Package marking shall be provided on one or more tags located on the outside of the reel flange. Where multiple tags are used, they shall be adjacent to each other. On reels, the tags shall be located a minimum of 150 mm from the outer edge of the flange. Package marking shall remain intact and legible for a minimum of one year. The following information shall be provided on package marking:
(a) "Ship to" location;
(b) cable length (metres);
(C) gross, net, and tare mass;
(d) Cable type ("Bare Overhead Aluminum Conductor");
(e) material code number;
(f) order number;
(g) manufacturer's name;
(h) date of manufacture (date of packaging onto shipping reel);
(i) size and code word, number and size of individual strands, and type of stranding;CSA C49.8-09 pdf download.
