CSA C68.8-11:2020 pdf download.Overhead aluminum secondary and service-entrance ca b les and conductors for electrical distribution utilities
1 Scope
1.1 This Standard specifies requirements for overhead secondary and service-entrance cables and conductors intended primarily for operation by electrical utilities.
Note: The operation of cables and conductors complying with this Standard by other than an electrical utility can be subject to additional requirements by an authority having jurisdiction.
1.2 The cables and conductors covered by this Standard are intended for overhead installation and for operation at normal maximum conductor temperatures of 75 °C and 90 °C. Provision is made for assembly of multiple conductors. Single 600 V insulated conductors are intended for field-spun applications.
1.3 In CSA Standards, "shal" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and "can" is used to express possibility or capability. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
7.2.2 Recoil and torque test
The following test shall be performed for each strander set-up on 7-wire designs of aluminum alloy AA-6101-T81 neutral conductors, designated A2 in Table E.1 of CAN/CSA-C61089:
(a) A minimum of 15 m of completed stranded conductor shall be pulled off the strander, at the capstan, without allowing any rotation of the free conductor end. When the conductor is cut, the strands shall not unravel, and the conductor end shall not rotate more than two turns when released.
(b) The same conductor shall be laid out on a straight line. When the two ends are released, at least 60% of the length in the centre of the conductor shall be straight and shall not deviate from the line by more than 30 cm in either direction. The conductor shall lie flat with no vertical displacement.
When conductor colour coding is required, conductor designation shall be in accordance with Table 3.Single unjacketed insulated conductors for 600 V field-spun use shall be identified, at intervals of approximately 1 m, by the manufacturer's identification, the conductor size and material, and the voltage rating.
