1.1 This Standard specifies requirements for covered overhead distribution line wire. These conductors are intended for overhead installation as single conductors on single-phase or three-phase electrical distribution systems.
1.2 This Standard does not cover conductors intended for field-spun applications.
1.3 In CSA Standards, "shal" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and "can" is used to express posibility or capability. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
8.1 General
Line wire shall be packaged in continuous lengths in coils or on wood reels. Reels shall conform to NEMA WC 26/EEMAC 201. Recommended wood reel sizes and lengths are listed in Table B.1.
The actual length on any reel shall fall within a tolerance of 5% of the shipping length.A length of conductor shorter than that recommended in Table B.1 may be supplied on a reel. The protective covering on reels shall be a Level 2 Weather Protector in accordance with NEMA WC 26/EEMAC 201.
Coils shall be protected by a weatherproof wrap and shall have a minimum inside diameter of 450 mm,a maximum outside diameter of 760 mm, and a maximum width of 250 mm. They shall be secured at a minimum of three equidistant points with nonmetallic ties.
The ends of the conductor on each reel shall be suitably bound and secured to the reel.
9 Quality management system
A quality management system consists of all planned and systematic actions that are necessary to ensure that a product conforms to technical or performance-based requirements. The manufacturer should have a quality management system in place that conforms to the requirements of an acceptable quality program.
Note: An example of an acceptable quality program is one based on CAN/CSA-ISO 9001.CSA C68.9-09 pdf download.
