CSA C880-15:2019 pdf download.Energy performance of stationary electric signs
8 Seasoning
Seasoning shall be done for neon technology and fluorescent technology signs. Prior to measuring input power, the sign model shall be operated at the rated input voltage and frequency for a period of at least 12 h. For LED and HID technology, no seasoning is required.
9 Stabilization
Once the sign is connected and attached to the measurement instrumentation, the sign shall operate for a minimum of 15 min to a maximum of 1 h until stability is reached. Once the percent difference between the minimum and maximum values for input voltage, input current, and input power do not exceed 1% over a 4 min moving window, the system is considered stable.
Allowing the sign to reach its steady-state operating point will provide a more accurate assessment of sign performance in the field. If the sign does not stabilize, a new sign sample shall be selected and the est shall be repeated.
B.1 Objective and approach
This Standard deals with the energy efficiency of stationary signs. This Standard is written to ensure that indoor or outdoor stationary (hardwired) signs installed in Canada meet energy efficiency requirements. This Standard applies to stationary signs installed indoors or outdoors, internally or externally iluminated. Electronic signs/displays with a viewable screen size equal to or more than 75 cm (30 in) diagonal are also referred to as stationary signs.
Energy efficiency of lighting equipment often uses the photometric characteristics such as the lumensper watt concept. However, electrical sign characteristics can greatly vary from sign and the colour use affect the photometric efficiency of the sign. The V(入) photopic sensitivity spectrum depends on the choice of colour, the red and the blue being less sensitive to the eye as compared to the green. It was then decided by the committee to stay away from photometric measurement in term of lumens per
Watt.
The CSA Committee decided to use the approach from the California Energy Commission's (CEC) 2013 Building Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential and Nonresidential Buildings under Title 24, Part 6 and associated Administrative regulations in Part 1, June 2013 CEC-400-2013-002-SD, California Energy Commission). The California 2013 Standards revision and the supporting documents were conceptualized, evaluated, and justified through the work of Energy Commission staff and consultants working under contract to the Energy Commission, the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the Southern California Edison Company, the San Diego Gas and Electric Company, and the Southern California Gas Company. The data of power density of signs was based on manufacturer-published information.CSA C880-15 pdf download.
