1.4 In CSA Standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and“can" is used to express possibility or capability. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
5.7.1 At a minimum, the frame or equivalent shall have design and strength characteristics that correspond to those that are standard for trucks with the same general load characteristics and are used for highway service.
5.7.2 If the frame side members are extended, the extension shall be designed and guaranteed by the chassis manufacturer or body manufacturer, and installation shall be performed by either the chassis manufacturer or body manufacturer and guaranteed by the company performing the installation. Frame lengths may be modified by the body manufacturer only when such alterations are in front of the front hanger of the front spring or behind the rear hanger of the rear spring, or both. Alterations for the purpose
of altering the wheelbase shall not be made.
6.3.1 A rear bumper shall be furnished and shall be attached directly to the chassis frame in a manner that prevents hitching or riding thereon, and with provisions for easy removal. It shall be of sufficient strength to permit the bus to be pushed at rated GVW on level ground by another vehicle without causing major permanent distortion to the bus.
The rear bumper shall be constructed and attached to the bus in a manner that develops the full strength of the bumper section upon rear or side impact. It shall extend beyond the rearmost part of the body surface at least 25 mm (1 in), measured at the floor line.
6.5.3.2 The retroreflective sheeting shall meet the photometric requirements of Table 1. The values in Table 1 are minimum coefficients of retroreflection expressed in candelas per lux per square metre (candelas per foot-candle per square foot). Measurements shall be made in accordance with ASTM E 810, except that the measurements shall be taken at the degree of orientation shown in Table 1.CSA D270-08 pdf download.
