1.3 In-service examination of containment system components designed in accordance with the CSA N285 series of Standards are beyond the scope of this Standard.
Note: CSA N285.5 provides requirements for periodic inspection of CANDU nuclear power plant containment components that are made of metallic or plastic materials and that form the containment boundary or are part of fluid handling systems that penetrate the containment structure.
14 This Standard is used in concert with the following standards, as applicable:
a) CSA N287.1, which outlines general requirements for concrete containment structures for nuclear power plants; and
b) CSA N287.8, which outlines aging management requirements for concrete containment structures for nuclear power plants.
1.5 In this Standard,“shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard;“should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard.
Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.
5.3.1.1 The responsibilities of the in-service examination lead shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
a) preparing and updating, as necessary, the in-service examination program;
b) reviewing examination reports and ILRT results pertaining to the overall leakage and location of the leaks;
c) interpreting and evaluating environmental, inspection, instrumentation, non-destructive, and destructive testing data, as applicable;
d) assessing degradation and recommending follow-up actions, as applicable;
e) defining mitigation, repair, and replacement actions or additional examination methods, or both, to be implemented, as applicable;
f) preparing requirements for repair;
g) overseeing and accepting repairs, including re-inspection; and
h) preparing the closeout report, documenting the activities in Items c) to g), for each in-service examination.
Notes:
1) Additional examination methods can include
a) destructive testing;
b) non-destructive testing;
c) instrumented monitoring; and
d) measurements of environmental parameters.
2) Any responsibility of the in-service examination lead may be delegated to a person with qualifications equal or greater than those specifed in Clause 5.3.2.
5.3.1.2 The responsibilities of the inspection team shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
a) performing visual inspections and NDE as applicable;
b) examining the condition of the containment structure and recording abnormalities and defects;
c) taking measurements, recording and documenting observed defects; and
d) preparing examination reports and other documentation for submission to the in-service examination lead.CSA N287.7 pdf download.
