5.4.6.9 The resistance R determined as per Clause 5.4.6.4 for the pre-break phase shall be limited by the maximum resistance Rmax governed by the capacity of glass
Note: See Clause B.4 for maximum resistance of window panes during the pre-break phase.
5.4.6.10 The resistance R determined as per Clause 5.4.6.4 for the post-break phase need not be checked against the glazing capacity, as the peak positive pressure P selected in Clause 5.2.1 ensures sufficient resistance for anchor design.
5.4.6.15 Design bending moment Mo, at the flexure critical anchor section due to shear force V。during the pre-break phase, and due to shear force Vo and axial force To during the post-break phase, shall be computed by considering appropriate force components and their the eccentricities relative to the critical anchor section.
Note: ASCE/SEI 59 provides typical commercially available window framing systems in Table C8-2.
6.1.1 Design of window anchorage shall include determination of glazing and framing reactions, selection of anchorage type, determination of required anchor size, and spacing and material properties to meet the performance criteria in Clause 4.
6.1.2 Unless otherwise shown by testing or rational analysis, anchors shall be idealized as a cantilever beam with a clear span equal to the distance between the outer edge of the substrate and the plane of application of frame forces along the fastener.
6.2 Design forces
6.2.1 The anchor design forces shall be calculated using one of the analysis methods specified in Clause 5. The design forces may be established through empirical methods verified by tests as per Clause 7.
6.4.2.1 An empirical approach may be used in which anchorage is selected based directly on test data or simplified design techniques which are validated by tests.
6.4.2.2 The use of an empirical approach shall include a rational analysis to demonstrate that the system under design is validated by the test data. This analysis shall include evaluation of tributary areas and applied loads, anchorage spacing and orientation, substrate condition, and material properties to ensure test data is consistent with in-situ conditions.
6.4.2.3 Anchor design strength shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's data and shall be documented in the design calculations. Details of the test methodology used to establish the manufacturer design strength shall also be documented in the calculations.
6.4.2.4 Anchor design strength shall be adjusted to account for edge distance, spacing, substrate material, and controlling case load combinations. The connection strength shall be in accordance with the applicable CSA Standard for the substrate material.CSA S852 pdf download.
