1.3 This Standard does not address safety issues associated with welding and welding practices. It is the responsibility of the user of this Standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
Note: CAN/CSA-W117.2 addresses safety in welding.
1.4 In CSA Standards, "shall'" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and "can" is used to express posibility or capability. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
4.2.4 A company seeking certification may have their resistance welding operations apply to the welding of steel or aluminum or both. The documentation issued by the CWB shall specify the base metal(s) (i.e., steel and/or aluminum) applicable to the company's certification.
4.2.5 A company that has been certified shall be issued documents by the CWB attesting to this certification. If the certification is withdrawn at any time, the company shall surrender these documents to the CWB.
4.2.6 A company, upon being certified to this Standard, may indicate such certification on letterheads,literature, and advertising matter. A company shall not use stamps, seals, or similar indications that imply that individual products, drawings, or specifications have been certified to this Standard. If certification is withdrawn, the company shall immediately refrain from displaying any indication of certification and shall discontinue using all such literature, letterheads, and advertising matter bearing the claim of certification.
4.3.1 Welding supervisors shall be issued a document showing the extent of their qualification. The document shall remain the property of the CWB and shall be immediately surrendered upon loss of qualification.Welding supervisors or their employers shall be responsible for ensuring that these documents are produced as proof of qualification.
4.3.2 Examinations, if required for qualification, shall be administered by the CWB. Individuals may seek exemption from these examinations on the basis of a combination of education, training, and experience comparable to formal courses of study in the subjects covered by the examinations.
