CSA Z275.3-09:2014 pdf download.Occupational safety code for work in compressed air environments
1.1 CSA Z275.3-09 applies to all work in compressed air environments at pressures above 20 kPa (3 psig) and sets forth requirements for the health and safety of workers exposed to these environments.
Note: In addition to the requirements of this Standard for the protection of workers, requirements can be prescribed by the authority having jurisdiction.
1.4 In CSA Standards,“shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
1.5 The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only. All air pressures specified in this Standard are expressed in kPa gauge (above atmospheric pressure) with the equivalent psi gauge units shown in parentheses.
7.2.1 Medical certification
Workers (or other individuals) shall not enter a working chamber (pressurized air environment) unless a signed statement issued by a physician is presented, stating that the worker has received a comprehensive examination once every two years up to age 39 and annually thereafter, or more frequently as determined by the examining physician.
7.2.2 Medical records
The results of such examinations shall be recorded (see sample forms provided in Figures 1 and 2). Copies of the medical examination and associated test results shall be maintained in the files of the examining physician in accordance with accepted medical practice. When written attestation is required to prove the individual's fitness for duty, a statement shall be provided to the individual's employer, certifying the worker's physical qualification to enter compressed air environments. The statement shall include the name of the individual, the date, the location where the medical record is stored, and the qualification or disqualification of the individual.
Note: Most jurisdictions in Canada require that such medical records be in a form acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction (i.e, as prescribed in occupational health and safety regulations).
7.2.3 Worker fitness
Workers (or other individuals) shall not enter a working chamber (compressed air environment) when, at the discretion of the work site supervisor, they are judged incapable of functioning safely and effectively in a compressed air environment. Workers shall inform the supervisor if they are unfit to enter the compressed air environment.CSA Z275.3-09 pdf download.
