CA.2.1 Maintenance and repair of low-pressure connecting assemblies and adapters shall be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions by
a) the manufacturer; or
b) a responsible organization.
CA.2.2 Whenever a low-pressure connecting assembly or adapter is repaired in a health care facility as specified in Clause CA.2.1 b), the responsible organization designated for this purpose shall
a) include a person who
i) has been trained by the manufacturer of the low-pressure connecting assembly or adapter, or by the manufacturer' s agent; and
ii) is competent to carry out the repairs; and
b) use only parts and materials acceptable to the manufacturer of the low-pressure connecting assembly or adapter.
Note: Refer to the user's manual or instructions.
Low-pressure connecting assemblies in a health care facility shall be tested as follows:
a) Vacuum hoses shall be tested once every 12 months in accordance with Clause 5.2 to determine compliance with the requirements of Clause 4.6.11.
b) Pressure hoses shall be tested once every 5 years in accordance with Clause 5.2 to determine compliance with the requirements of Clause 4.6.11.
c) All low-pressure hose assemblies not accessible to the user (e.g., in an articulated arm or a retractable ceiling column) shall be tested as follows:
i) Performance at the distal end shall be verified every 12 months in accordance with Clause 5.2 in series with the terminal unit, as part of the overall pipeline system.
ii) Standing pressure tests shall be conducted whenever leakage is suspected and as a minimum once every 5 years as required in CSA Z7396.1, Clause 15.2.4.1.
iii) Visual inspection of the hoses shall occur every 5 years or in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
d) AlI hoses tested or verified shall be tagged or labelled specifying that they have been inspected at the interval indicated. Verification results shall be documented and records maintained for the life of the hose in accordance with the health care facility's policies.
e) Defective hoses not repaired immediately shall be removed from service or tagged in accordance with CSA Z7396.1, Clause 15.1.5.
f) Hoses shall be replaced when they show deterioration or as specified by the manufacturer (e.g., in accordance with the indicated life expectancy).
Note: Vacuum hose obstructions causing loss of flow occur frequently, necessitating inspections at shorter intervals. All hose 0-rings should be inspected at least annually for failure because they are prone to shearing.Hoses deteriorate with age. Deformation increases and resistance to occlusion (crush resistance) decreases.CSA Z5359-16 pdf download.
