AWWA C563-14 describes vertically mounted, fabricated, composite, resilient- seated slide gates with full-aperture closure, designed for either seating head or unseating head or both, in ordinary water supply and wastewater service. Te gates are primarily used to shut of or throttle water and wastewater fow through a rectangular or round orifce, end of channel, or in-channel opening. Tey may be of either conventional-closure or fush-bottom–closure type and may be opened either upward or downward. This standard also describes manual gate actuator mechanisms together with standard accessories. Power-actuated mechanisms (including electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic) are described in ANSI/AWWA C541 and ANSI/AWWA C542.
Data to Be Provided by the Manufacturer
When required, the manufacturer shall submit, for acceptance by the pur- chaser, drawings certifed as meeting ANSI/AWWA C563, showing the principal dimensions, general construction, and materials used for the parts of the gate and actuator. Slide gates shall be manufactured and provided in accordance with these drawings after they have been accepted by the purchaser. Te manufacturer shall also furnish illustrated catalog data and parts schedules in sufcient detail to serve as a guide for assembly and disassembly of the gate and for ordering repair parts.
4.3.1 Physical and chemical properties. Te requirements of AWWA, ANSI, AISI, ASTM, CDA, or other standards referenced in this text shall govern the physical and chemical characteristics of the slide-gate components.
Table 1 lists the minimum specifed physical properties for nonmetallic materials used to fabricate composite slide gates. Te maximum allowable design stresses to be used in gate design are derived from these properties utilizing the 4-to-1 safety factors specifed later in this standard. Greater allowable stresses may be used, providing certifed material requirement sheets are provided with gates (gate calculations)
4.3.3 Requirements. Materials designated hereinafter, when used in slide gates produced according to this standard, shall conform to the requirements of the standards designated for each material listed.
