4.1.1 Door weight shall vary in accordance with the size or category of spring hinge or pivot to be tested as indicated in 5.2.1. Test door widths are permitted to be the same at the option of the manufacturer if test door weights are adjusted to provide an equivalent lbf-ft load. Test door height shall be 80 in (2032 mm) minimum.
4.1.2 Provide a rigid vertical steel jamb 1/4 in (6.4 mm) minimum thickness that is not mortised for hinges, of dimensions appropriate to hang the test door. The hinge mounting surfaces shall lie in the same plane and be plumb. Use a conventional wood or metal door or a skeletonized structure that has not been mortised for hinges all having an equivalent center of gravity in all directions after the weights are applied. The hinge mounting surface for the door shall be a continuous steel strip 1/4 in (6.4 mm) minimum thickness. (See Fig.1)
4.1.3 Means for mechanically opening the door 90 degrees±5 degrees from within 5 degrees of normal closed position and releasing shall be provided for the cycling test. Doors with double acting hinges or pivots shall be opened 90 egrees±5 degrees in both directions from within 5 degrees of normal closed position and released.
5.1 Before testing, each mounted and tensioned specimen shall be measured to determine any vertical or lateral clearance between leaves and knuckles. Measurements shall be taken at 45 degree travel of the door.Angle of opening shall be the same for final measurements as for original measurements within 2 degrees.Vertical measurement is between adjacent jamb leaf and door leaf knuckles. L ateral measurement is between inner edge of jamb leaf and adjacent door leaf knuckle. If this location is at the center of the hinge, one measurement at the center of the hinge will suffice. If this location is not at the center of the hinge, two measurements, equally distant from center of hinge shall be taken; the qualifying lateral measurement is the average of these two. For pivots, measure and record the vertical relationship between the top of the door and the adjacent header or reference point at the pivot axis with the door closed. Measure and record the lateral relationship of the door with the jamb at the top pivot point.
5.2 For hinges or pivots with adjustable spring force, adjust to provide a total closing force equal to or greater than the minimum given for the hinges or pivots in 5.2.1. The manufacturer's recommended adjustment procedures shall be used. For non-adjustable spring hinges or pivots, the closing force shall equal or exceed the minimum values shown in 5.2.1.
