1.3 In this Standard,“shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard.
Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.
Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.
Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
3 Definitions
The following definitions shall apply in this Standard:
Average一the sum of all measurements divided by the number of measurements (i.e., the arithmetic mean).
Base一a means of connection to an electrical source of supply.
Beam angle (of symmetrical beams)一the angle, expressed in degrees, between the two opposite directions in which the average luminous intensity is 50% of the centre beam luminous intensity as measured in at least two rotational planes, 90° from each other, around and through the beam axis [Source: NEMA ANSI C78-379]
Note: See Figure 1 Beam axis一the axis about which the luminous flux is substantially symmetrical.
Notes:
1) In symmetrical beams, luminous flux is substantially symmetrical about the beam axis in planes through all rotational angles about the lamp and the beam axis. In asymmetrical beams, the luminous flux is substantially symmetrical in two planes 90° from each other and through the beam axis.
2) The beam axis might or might not coincide with lamp axis through the lamp base or the lamp axis normal to the plane of any fixed points on the reflector. [Source: NEMA ANSI C78-379]
General lighting 一lighting designed to provide a substantially uniform level of iluminance throughout an area, exclusive of any provision for special local requirements.
General service directional lamp一a lamp serving general lighting purposes and having at least 80% luminous flux emitted within a solid angle of 2*π sr (corresponding to a cone with an angle of 180°).
Note: General service directional lamps are sometimes marketed as Reflector lamps, which are lamps that have a shape specified in NEMA ANSI C79.1.
Halogen lamp - an incandescent lamp containing one or more halogen class elements or halogen compounds.
Note: In this Standard, the term "halogen lamp”includes halogen infrared lamps.
Harmonic一a component of order n of the Fourier series that describes the periodic current or voltage (where n is an integer greater than 1).CAN CSA C875-13 pdf download.
