CSA G12-14:2019 pdf download.Zinc-coated steel wire strand
1.1 CSA G12-14 describes zinc-coated steel wire strand suitable for use as guys, suspension strand, span wires, and overhead ground wire strand. Overhead ground wire strand for electric power transmission is produced free of wire joints. Included are requirements for Grades 800, 1100, 1300, and 1500 (110,160, 180, and 220). Zinc coatings for all grades include hot-dip Class A and electro-galvanized Class A, B,or C. Construction features include strands containing 7, 19, or more than 19 wires.
1.2 This Standard is not intended for use in the manufacture and purchase of galvanized bridge or ACSR strands, smooth coil track strand, or galvanized sash cord.
1.3 The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents. Each system is to be used independently of the other.
4.2.4 Ductility requirements
For all grades, the zinc-coated wire shall not fracture when wrapped in a close helix at least twice around a cylindrical mandrel equal to three times the nominal diameter of the wire when tested in accordance with the requirements of Clause 11.1.4.
4.2.5 Zinc-coating adherence requirements
For all classes of zinc coating, the wire shall be capable of being wrapped two turns around a mandrel three times the diameter of the wire when tested in accordance with the requirement of Clause 11.1.4.After being subjected to this test, the zinc coating shall adhere to the wire without flaking and without being removable by rubbing with bare fingers. Loosening or detachment of superficial small particles of zinc during the adherence test is not considered to be lack of adherence.
4.2.6 Zinc coating
The wire shall be uniformly and continuously coated with zinc. The mass (weight) of coating shall conform to the values in Table 3 for zinc-coated steel wire when tested in accordance with the requirement of Clause 11.1.5.
5.1.1 Condition of the strand
The completed strand shall be evenly laid and shall be free from injurious imperfections, kinks, loose wires, or other irregularities, and shall remain in this condition when unwound from the reel or coil, provided that proper precautions are taken and the ends of the strand are properly secured.
5.1.2 Lubrication
No lubricant shall be applied to the individual wires during the stranding operation. The manufacturer shall take precautions to ensure that no grease or oil is present on the finished strand except the lubrication that may have been used during the galvanizing process.CSA G12-14 pdf download.
