1.1 This Standard applies to manual lever operated, pressure lubricated, straight way gas shut-off valves, sizes NPS % inch to 8 inch, of metallic construction with welded, or flanged, or threaded ends, for use with natural gas, manufactured gas, and liquefied petroleum gases (distributed as vapour with or without the admixture of air), or mixtures thereof that are suitable for use between service temperatures of -60 °C (-76°F) to 180。C (356°F) over a pressure range of zero to 860 kPa (125 psig) and withstand field pressure testing to a maximum pressure of 1290 kPa (187 psig).
Notes:
1) Valves covered by this Standard may be used on "digester gas" (methane produced during sewage treatment), but because of entrained contaminants their use is to be subject to agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser.
2) Valves covered by this Standard may not be used on "sour gas" (gas with entrained hydrogen sulphide) without additional modjfications. Manufacturers should be consulted for their recommendation(s).
4.1.2 Valve materials and sealants (lubricants) shall be resistant to the action of the gases specified in Clause 1.1. A valve shall be suitable for continuous use over the temperature range -30。C (-22°F)to 65 °C (149°F) or other temperature ranges as described in Clauses 6 through 9.
4.1.3 A valve shall be marked or constructed so that the operator can visually determine the opened or closed position. A valve shall be constructed so that the manufacturer's recommended lever can only be fitted to the valve in line with the gasway so that, when fitted, the lever will form a further indication of the opened or the closed position.
4.1.4 A valve shall be constructed so that the rotation is limited to one quarter turn from opened to closed position. Construction shall be such that clockwise rotation closes the valve. Operating levers and travel limit stops shall comply with the operating torque loads test specified in Clause 5, Performance.
4.1 9 A valve shall incorporate a lubricating sealing system to provide a means for delivery of sealant (lubricant) to the body/obturator interface. Means shall be provided in the obturator and/or body to effectively seal the ports and facilitate operation. The arrangement shall be such that sealant (lubricant) pressure is transmitted to all parts of the system when the valve is in the fully opened or the fully closed position. A check valve shall be provided to prevent the escape of sealant (lubricant). The lubricating system shall be designed to provide a continued shut-off as required in Clause 5, Performance.CSA 3-11-15 pdf download.
