1.6 CSA 8.3 contains SI (Metric) units corresponding to the yard/pound quantities, the purpose being to allow the standard to be used in SI (Metric) units. (IEEE/ASTM SI 10, American National Standard for Metric Practice, or ISO 80000-1:2009, Quantities and units - Part 1: General, is used as a guide in making metric conversion from yard/ pound quantities.) If a value for a measurement and a corresponding value in other units are stated, the first stated value is to be regarded as the requirement. The given corresponding value may be approximate. If a value for a measurement and a corresponding value in other units are both specified as a quoted marking requirement, the first stated unit, or both, are to be provided.
4.3.3 Hydrostatic proof pressure test
The hose, when lying straight, shall withstand a hydrostatic pressure of twice the rated working pressure for 5 minutes without leakage or other indication of weakness. Hydrostatic pressure shall be applied as specified in Clause 4.3.1, Hydrostatic pressure test.
4.3.4 Tensile strength and elongation of tube
For flexible materials, the tensile and elongations test shall be performed in accordance with the Standard Method of Testing Rubber Hose, ASTM D380. Tensile and elongation test shall be carried out by means of a constant-rate-of-crosshead movement type. For relatively stiff tube materials from which test specimens cannot be cut, test specimens of tube material shall be prepared in accordance with the Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Plastics ASTM D638.
Method of Test
An apparatus consisting of a Jolly Balance or an Analytical Balance shall be provided with a bridge for the support of a vessel of distilled water over the left hand pan. A metal die shall be provided for cutting rectangular specimens 1 in by 2 in (25.4 mm by 50.8 mm).
Three specimens, 1 in by 2 in (25.4 mm by 50.8 mm), or as large as possible, shall be cut from the tube of the hose by means of a die. The volume of each specimen shall be determined by weighing the specimen first in air and then in water. The specimens shall be dried and immersed for 70 hours in commercial N-hexane one at a time, rinsed in ethyl alcohol, lightly wiped, and again weighed, first in air and then water. The weight in air shall be taken within 2 minutes after the specimen is removed from the hexane, and the weight in water shall be taken within 5 minutes after removal from the hexane. The percent change in volume shall be calculated for each specimen and results for the three specimens shall be averaged.CSA 8.3 pdf download.
