3 General Requirements
3.1 The PVC compound used shall be of uniform consistent composition. The minimum tensile strength of the compound shall be 19.3 MPa and the elongation a minimum of 15% when tested in accordance with ASTM Standard D638, Tensile Properties of Plastics.
3.2 All duct and fittings shall be made of material that is non-injurious to lead-sheathed or plastic-jacketed cables.
3.3 Clean rework material generated from the manufacturer's own duct and fittings production may be used with or without virgin material of the same composition from the same manufacturer, provided the duct and fttings produced meet the requirements of this Standard.
3.4 The compound used in the manufacture of duct shall conform to Clause 4.2.4 of CSA Standard B137.0,Definitions, general requirements, and methods of testing for thermoplastic pressure piping.
Note: It is the intent of this requirement that the product made from this compound will meet the requirements of this Standard after 1 year in outdoor storage from the date of manufacture.
5.1 General
Any length of manufactured duct or any ftting shall be of uniform composition throughout and free from visible cracks, holes, foreign inclusions, and other injurious defects.
5.2 Inside Surface Finish
The maximum roughness of the inside surface of the duct shall not exceed 3.175 μm when determined with a G.E. gauge 8665947-G1 or the equivalent.
5.3 Coefficient of Static Friction
The average coefficient of static friction shall not exceed 0.20 when determined in accordance with Clause 6.2.
5.4 Duct Dimensions
5.4.1 Diameter and Wall Thickness
Duct shall meet the applicable dimensional requirements in Table 1 when measured In accordance with ASTM Standard D2122, Determining Dimensions of Thermoplastic Pipe and Fittings. No single value for wall thickness shall be less than that shown in Table 1.
5.4.2 Out-of-Round
The difference between any individual measurement of outside diameter and the measured average outside diameter as determined in Clause 5.4.1 shall not exceed 2%.
5.4.4.2 Bell-end duct shall be supplied in 3 or 6 m lengths unless otherwise specified. The lay length shall be the distance from the spigot end to the point of taper in the socket of the bell end (i.e., effective bottom of the socket) as specified in Figure 1. The tolerance on the lay length shall be±12 mm.
5.4.5 Dimensions of Bell-End Sockets
The dimensions of bell-end sockets shall comply with Figure 1.
5.5 Impact Resistance
There shall be no visible cracks or splits in duct specimens when impacted in accordance with Clause 6.3 and Table 3. Ten duct specimens shall be impacted at each temperature. At least 9 out of 10 shall pass.CSA B196-3-M1983 pdf download.
