CSA M424.1:2016 pdf download.Flameproof non-rail-bound diesel-powered machines for use in gassy underground coal mines
4 Machine requirements
4.1 Information requirements
Each machine shall be accompanied by a list of specific features that shall be checked and of tests that shall be performed to determine if a certified diesel machine remains in certified condition. Test procedures shall be specified in sufficient detail to allow the evaluation to be made without reference to other documents.
4.2 Industrial safety requirements
4.2.1 General
In general, vulnerable parts and systems, which constitute potential safety hazards, shall be constructed, positioned, and protected as required to minimize the possibility of damage.
4.2.2 Lighting
4.2.2.1 The electrical system associated with machine lighting shall meet the requirements specified in the electrical equipment Clause 4.3.2.
4.2.2.2 Each machine shall be equipped with two or more white lighting units, each circuit protected against overload and short circuit by a device located close to the power source. The lighting units shall be permanently attached and directed to illuminate the roadway in the direction of travel. Each lighting unit shall produce illumination equivalent to, or greater than, that provided by a 60 W incandescent sealed lighting unit.
Note: Additional lighting required for illumination of a workplace while the machine is stationary may be provided.
4.2.2.3 Each bidirectional machine shall be equipped with lighting as specified in Clause 4.2.2.2 at both ends of the machine.
4.2.2.4 Red or amber reflective, nonlight alloy material (as defined in Clause 4.3.1.4) shall be attached to both ends of each machine. The minimum area of red or amber reflective nonlight alloy material attached to each end of a machine shall be 460 cm2.
Note: Additional tail lamps may be pro vided for illumination of a workplace while the machine is stationary.
4.2.5.3 Machines are intended to be operated only in mines whose openings have been regularly inspected and made safe, and to be operated on roadways or in openings considered adequate for safe operation.
Notwithstanding this intention, all machines shall be equipped with substantially constructed canopies located and installed in such a manner that the operator, when at the operating controls of such equipment, shall be protected from falling roof (falling object protective structure - FOPS). A canopy shall be considered to be substantially constructed if the structure has a minimum capacity to support elastically one of the following, whichever is the lesser, or, if constructed in accordance with SAE J231 or ISO 3449:
a) a dead weight point load of 8200 kg; or
b) 100 kPa distributed over the plan view area.
Note: In cases of mines that, because of particular conditions, offer hazards of unstable ground, steep roadways, unusual loading or dumping arrangements, et., the mine operator or the appropriate regulatory authority might require that special protection, in addition to FOPS, be attached to, and become part of a machine covered by this Standard, such as a rollover protective structure (ROPS).CSA M424.1 pdf download.
