Initiation一the transmission of a violent chemical reaction at supersonic velocity from one explosive into an adjacent explosive to cause its detonation.
Note: Means of initiation can include fuzes, primers, detonators, and blasting caps.
Low explosive一an explosive, usually ignited by a flame, that burns slower than high explosives. The speed of combustion is fixed or controlled by the granulation, density of loading, confinement (surrounding pressure), and similar factors. Combustion occurs steadily over the surface of the powder grains and from layer to layer until the total mass is consumed. The resultant reaction causes evolution of heat and an unusually large volume of gas.
Note: Such combustion is frequently termed "deflagration". The distinction between low and high explosives is not sharply defined and both trms are relative. Some low explosives under conditions of proper fineness, packing confinement, and initiation can detonate when ignited; conversely, some high explosives will simply burn if ignited under the proper conditions.
Minimum safe distance (MSD)一an evacuation (or cordon) distance (or radius) centered on the location of underwater UXO and applied during UXO Diving Operations when intentional or unintentional destruction of UXO is possible. The MSD is critical for the safety of all personnel. Factors taken into account when dealing with explosives in an underwater environment include wind, tide, current, depth of water, explosive shock, explosive plume, overpressure, and fragmentation.
Munition - a complete device (e.g., missile or mine demolition store), charged with explosives, propellants, initiating compositions, or nuclear, biological, or chemical material, for use in military operations, including demolitions.
Ordnance一military materiel, e.g., combat weapons, with the ammunition and equipment required for their use. Ordnance includes all things that make up guns and ammunition and all equipment needed to control, operate, and support the weapons.
Performance standard - a description or specification of the abilities that a diver is required to demonstrate, or a listing of the specific skills and the level at which the diver is expected to function.
Police explosive diver - a serving police officer who is also an occupational diver, certified as having met the competency standards specified in CSA Z275.4 for a specific category, who has successfully completed police explosive training and underwater explosive disposal training, and has been certified accordingly.
Police explosive recognition diver一a serving police officer who is also an occupational diver, certified as having met the competency standards specified in CSA Z275.4 for a specific category, who has successfully completed police underwater explosive recognition training, and has been certified accordingly.
Police explosives dive team一all divers and surface support team members, each possessing appropriate qualifications and competencies, necessary for the performance of a police explosive diving operation.
Police explosives recognition dive team一all divers and surface support team members, each possessing appropriate qualifications and competencies, necessary for the performance of a police explosive recognition diving operation.
Police explosive diving一diving using SCUBA or surface-supplied diving equipment for tasks involving,or suspected of involving, underwater IED's and/or commercial explosives, including search and recognition.CSA Z275-6-16 pdf download.
